Essensuals Clifton

Thanks to Philomena and Matt Filsell who let me spend an afternoon sketching in their hair salon at the top of Park Street. It was a real challenge and I’d like to go back. Drawing in a place that’s all about image is interesting to begin with. And hairdressers move, they go round and round their clients at a faster rate than you’d think. Then there’s so much going on in a room full of mirrors.

Thanks to Liz, Rachel, Phoebe and Aimee for letting me draw you at work. And it’s a lovely friendly place with a zen-like skylight over the washbasins and a more extensive drinks menu than you’d imagine!

Wobbly Rock

To be honest I haven’t done a lot of sketching for a few weeks, but I do have a few drawings from before Christmas which still need working into final illustrations. I got round to this one on Saturday so that I could put it on a birthday card for one of the singers. This is a group from my church, tbc, singing selections from a rather good jazz musical called Wobbly Rock, written by local musician Marilyn Childs. It’s based on the life of St. Peter. When she publishes the sheet music, and the CD, and when we put a proper concert on at church one day, I’ll tell you.

Victoria Park Revisited

Had a request today from someone wanting to choose an image of Victoria Park, so here are all the ones I can find – for you and for anyone else who is enjoying the park and its cafe coming back to life this March.

Can’t post the Parents of Soul print this week without especially remembering Adrian, centre stage in the black hat.

Christmas Cards!

I’ve just printed 40 Christmas cards to sell at Front Room this weekend. Might do more tomorrow! As usual I’ll be in the Salt Cellar at Totterdown Baptist Church with some wonderful artists and mucisians, 12-6 Saturday and 12-5 Sunday. I’ll accept Bristol pounds if you’ve got them!

You can also see my latest work any day until the 25th November at Bocabar.
