Brittany

We finally took our children to France, for four days on four bicycles. (You’ve no idea, until you do it, how exciting it is to ride a bicycle up to a large ship.) Here are just a couple of the sketches I did in Brittany. And while I’m here, you are invited to join me for the Private View of New Visions III at the Grant Bradley Gallery in Bedminster this Friday (7th June). I have one picture on show, which you haven’t seen, because I finished it a day before the submission deadline. Come on down and have a glass of wine.

Victoria Park Revisited

Had a request today from someone wanting to choose an image of Victoria Park, so here are all the ones I can find – for you and for anyone else who is enjoying the park and its cafe coming back to life this March.

Can’t post the Parents of Soul print this week without especially remembering Adrian, centre stage in the black hat.

Front Room 2012

Totterdown Baptism

Really enjoyed Front Room this year. The weather was good, we had just the right number of artists in the Salt Cellar at Totterdown Baptist Church, and some lovely music. I didn’t get out much and when I did I headed to Stevens Crescent which is what I always end up doing. It’s always worth it just for Susan Black’s subtle and moving greyscale paintings of old photos, but I also loved standing in the middle of a room full of Darren Hoskins’ powerful pastel cityscapes. Don’t know how he gets that energy from photos. Somehow he can store what he’s seen in his head.

I’ve been trying to draw from the balcony in Totterdown Baptist Church for years. I was thrilled when the picture above appeared in my sketchbook, it’s the nearest I’ve got to capturing the energy of worship in that space.

Christmas Cards!

I’ve just printed 40 Christmas cards to sell at Front Room this weekend. Might do more tomorrow! As usual I’ll be in the Salt Cellar at Totterdown Baptist Church with some wonderful artists and mucisians, 12-6 Saturday and 12-5 Sunday. I’ll accept Bristol pounds if you’ve got them!

You can also see my latest work any day until the 25th November at Bocabar.

Well done Bradley Wiggins!

Not sure whether this one is finished but I felt I just had to put it on the blog today, when Bradley Wiggins won his Gold Medal in the Olympic Time Trial.

I did this sketch on Saturday in Leatherhead High Street, waiting for the Road Race to pass by. That race was rather less of a success for Great Britain but there was still a great atmosphere as we waited, cheering every police and support vehicle that passed.

Of course you can’t see it properly here. The whole of my ‘waiting’ trilogy (waiting for the flame, waiting for the flotilla, waiting for the road race) will be on show at Art on the Hill on the 6th and 7th October 2012.
